One of the great things about the International Club is that it is truly international. Of course we have Japanese students and staff that join the events, but we also have full-time international students from a variety of countries, exchange students, and international staff as well. We all learn from each other, enjoy sharing our ideas and experiences, and it is all organized by the students. Here MM tells us a little more.（インターナショナルクラブでは、日本人の学生、教職員はもちろん、本学に留学している交換留学生やさまざまな国出身の教員が学生主催のイベントに参加します。今回は、アメリカからの交換留学生と交流するイベントについてMMさんが報告してくれます。）

English Circleは、国際英語学科のインターナショナルクラブの活動の一つで、学内で英語を使う機会を増やすことを目的として始まった活動です。活動中は英語のみで会話をするため、普段日本語で話している友達とも英語でコミュニケーションを取ることができます。また、さまざまな国や地域に関わりのある人と交流し、新しい文化や考え方に触れることができる貴重な機会でもあります。

English Circle is one of the activities of the International Club in the Department of International English, and it was started with the aim of creating more opportunities to use English on campus. During the activities, participants communicate only in English, which allows students to speak English even with friends they usually talk to in Japanese. It is also a valuable opportunity to interact with people from various countries and regions and to experience new cultures and ways of thinking.

私たちは、広島女学院大学に留学生として来ているアメリカ出身のMSさんから、日本での生活や経験についてのお話を聞きました。発表では、MSさんが日本で訪れたさまざまな場所や、そこで経験したこと、日本とアメリカの違いなどについて紹介してくれました。日本での生活を通して感じたことを、実際の経験や写真を交えながら話してくださったため、日本人である私たちにとっても新しい発見がたくさんありました。

その中でも、私が特に印象に残ったのは、MSさんが集めていた御朱印です。日本のさまざまな場所を訪れ、その地域で御朱印を集めながら思い出を作っていることがとても印象的でした。私たちにとって身近な日本の文化でも、外国から来たMSさんの視点から見ることで、改めてその魅力に気づくことができました。また、ただ観光するだけではなく、訪れた場所で思い出を形に残していることも素敵だと感じました。

We had the opportunity to hear from MS, an international student from the United States who is currently studying at Hiroshima Jogakuin University, about her life and experiences in Japan. In her presentation, MS introduced various places she had visited in Japan, the experiences she had there, and some of the differences between Japan and the United States. Since she shared her thoughts about living in Japan through her personal experiences and photos, we were able to discover many new things about Japan from a different perspective.

MSさんの発表が終わった後は、終了時間まで周りの友達と英語で会話をしました。普段は日本語で話している友達とも英語で話すことで、いつもとは違った雰囲気で交流することができました。夏休みの予定について話したり、お互いの近況について話したりする中で、英語を使ってコミュニケーションを取る楽しさを改めて感じました。

After MS’s presentation, we spent the rest of the session talking with our friends in English. By speaking English with friends whom we usually talk to in Japanese, we were able to interact in a different atmosphere than usual. We talked about our plans for summer vacation and caught up with each other, and through these conversations, we once again realized how enjoyable it is to communicate with others in English.

今回のEnglish Circleを通して、英語を学ぶためには、授業で勉強するだけでなく、実際に英語を使って人と話すことが大切だと感じました。日本にいると、日常生活の中で英語を使う機会を自分から作ることはなかなか難しいですが、English Circleでは気軽に英語を使うことができます。また、英語を話すことに少し不安があっても、友達と一緒に楽しみながら挑戦できることも、この活動の魅力だと思います。

Through this English Circle session, I realized that learning English is not only about studying in class, but also about actually using English to communicate with others. In Japan, it can be difficult to create opportunities to use English in our daily lives, but English Circle provides a comfortable environment where we can use English freely. I also think one of the best things about this activity is that even if we feel a little nervous about speaking English, we can challenge ourselves while having fun with our friends.

これからもEnglish Circleへの参加を通して、英語を話すことへの苦手意識を少しずつ減らし、さまざまな人と積極的に英語でコミュニケーションを取れるようになりたいです。そして、英語を話せるようになりたいと思っている学生たちと一緒にこの活動を続けていきたいと思います。

Through participating in English Circle, I hope to gradually overcome my hesitation about speaking English and become more confident in communicating actively with people from different backgrounds. I also hope to continue participating in this activity together with other students who want to improve their English-speaking skills.
