One of our students, KS, created an ingenious design for origami cranes. Origami is becoming more and more famous around the world and Hiroshima is, of course, especially famous for its paper cranes and their role as a symbol of peace. Here, KS tells us about her very worthwhile project.（本学は、折り鶴を通して平和活動を続けてきています。世界でも"origami"として知られるようになった、その折り紙にデザインの工夫を凝らした学生がいます。国際英語学科生のKSさんにその想いを聞いてみました。）

私は、海外の方にも折り鶴や平和に興味を持ってもらいたいという思いから、各国の国花を取り入れた折り紙をデザインし、意匠登録を行いました。

　完成した折り鶴は、羽を広げると花びらが空を舞うように見え、背中と片翼には国名や花名が現れます。折り始めを示す星印を付けることで、言語や年齢を問わず誰でもきれいに完成できるよう工夫しました。

　ひろしまフラワーフェスティバルのおりづる広場で体験していただいたところ、子どもから高齢者まで美しく折ることができ、「自分の国の花が入っていてうれしい」「海外でも広めたい」といった声をいただき、折り鶴を通して国際交流や平和について考えるきっかけを生み出せました。

　この経験から、小さな工夫や行動が平和への関心を広げる力になることを実感し、今後も平和について考えるきっかけづくりに取り組みたいです。

More and more of our students are taking part in off-campus activities, and just as KS has written, through this project she managed to create a unique environment for cross-cultural understanding and spreading a message of peace - across the generations and across national boundaries, too.
