One of the aims of our department is to get the students "out and about" - to learn off campus as well as on it. One great example of this is the Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Guide Training Program.（学生たちは大学を飛び出して、学びを実際に体験することもあります。英語ツアーガイド講座では、学生たちが広島平和記念公園で英語での案内に挑戦しました。）

The Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Guide Training Program, held over two days in February 2026, was designed to develop students’ historical knowledge, communication skills, and confidence in guiding visitors in English at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. There were, in total, 10 students who signed up for the program, and overall, the students had a wonderful and rewarding
experience.
（2026年2月に2日間にわたり、広島平和記念公園ツアーガイド研修プログラムを実施しました。英語で案内するための歴史的知識、コミュニケーション能力、および自信を養うことを目的としています。10名の学生が参加し、有意義で充実した経験となりました。）

The transfer of knowledge and experience (concerning the atomic bombing) from generation to generation is so important

On Day 1, students attended Hibakusha testimonies, participated in a lecture by a professional guide, and engaged in role-play activities to prepare short tour scripts. Day 2 focused on field-based learning, including visiting the Peace Memorial Museum visit, an observation of a professional-guided tour, and student-led mini-presentations at key sites such as the Atomic Bomb
Dome and Cenotaph.
（1日目には、被爆者の方からお話を伺いました。その後、プロのガイドによる講義が行われ、ツアーの原稿作成のためのロールプレイ活動に取り組みました。2日目は実践。平和記念資料館を見学し、平和記念公園でプロのガイドによるツアーを体験した後、いよいよ学生たちが成果を見せる番です。学生たちはペアを組み、原爆ドームや慰霊碑などを前にして英語で案内をしました。）

Through these activities, students improved their ability to present accurate historical information with sensitivity and clarity while integrating survivor narratives into meaningful, respectful interpretations. Feedback highlighted strong engagement and empathy, alongside areas for improvement such as delivery confidence and pacing.
（この活動を通して、学生たちは正確さと同時に思いやりの心をもって、被爆者の語りと歴史的事実を分かりやすく伝えることを心がけました。学生たちの積極性や共感力には感心させられました。一方で、自信を持って話すことや時間配分に注意するなど、今後の課題も見つかりました。）

Overall, the program successfully combined theoretical learning with practical English speaking experience, contributing to students’ development as responsible and effective tour guides.
