On Saturday, 13 December, students from 4 universities - Hiroshima Jogakuin University, Eikei
University, Shudo University, and Hiroshima University came together for the 14th Inter-University
Scrabble Competition, held at Hiroshima Eikei University. The event offered a friendly yet stimulating
environment where students could test their English vocabulary skills while engaging with peers from across
the region.
（12月13日（土）、第14回大学対抗スクラブル大会に広島女学院大学の学生が参加しました。会場の広島叡啓大学に集まった、広島女学院大学、叡啓大学、修道大学、広島大学の学生たちが交流しながら、和やかでありながら刺激的な雰囲気の中で行われました。）

What is Scrabble? Scrabble is a word-based board game in which players create English words by placing
letter tiles on a shared board. Each letter has a different point value, and players score points based on the
letters used and their placement on the board. The game encourages strategic thinking, spelling accuracy,
and vocabulary development, making it an enjoyable and effective way for students to practice English in a
competitive yet cooperative setting.
（スクラブルは、アルファベットのタイルをボード上に配置して英単語を作る、言葉を使ったボードゲームです。各アルファベットには異なる得点が書かれており、使用した文字やボード上の配置によって得点が決まります。戦略的思考力、正確なスペリング、語彙力の向上を促しながら、競争性と協調性も必要となる、楽しく効果的に英語を練習できるゲームです。）

The competition began with a warm welcome, snacks, and introductions before moving into the Scrabble games themselves. A total of five students from HJU participated – MH, RK, PTL, KS, and AS - and all performed exceptionally well. Throughout the afternoon, participants demonstrated strong language ability, creativity, and excellent sportsmanship.
Most impressively, all five participating students received prizes, reflecting both their skill and enthusiasm,
and AS achieved first place overall!
（大会は、歓迎の挨拶や軽食、自己紹介から始まり、その後スクラブルの試合が行われました。広島女学院大学からは、MHさん、RKさん、PTLさん、KSさん、ASさんの5人が参加し、全員がよい成績を収めました。学生たちは皆、高い言語能力、創造性、そして素晴らしいスポーツマンシップを発揮しました。特に印象的だったのは、参加した5名全員が賞品を獲得したことで、実力と意欲の高さに驚かされました。そして、ASさんが見事総合1位に輝きました！）

Students reported that they greatly enjoyed the experience and valued the opportunity to use English in a real-world, interactive context while connecting with students from other universities. The competition once again proved to be a rewarding and motivating event, highlighting the educational and social benefits of inter-university collaboration.
