Well-deserved certificates for the group
On February 17th, we went sightseeing in La Jolla, San Diego. This was the first time we used public transportation. We were impressed that the buses here accepted payment by credit card, and that we enjoyed conversations with strangers on the way to our destination. It was a very sunny and comfortable day, so it was perfect for sightseeing. La Jolla is known by many people for the large number of wild seals that live on the beach. When I actually went there, I was impressed by how cute the seals were and how it felt like an aquarium in nature.
On February 19th, we gave a presentation about Japanese culture and origami cranes. We gave a presentation about Japanese anime, Japanese food, famous tourist spots in Japan, Miyajima in Hiroshima, our hometown, the history of the Atomic Bomb Dome, and origami cranes. They also celebrated our graduation and held a ceremony for us.
When the presentation started, I was very nervous and worried about whether we would be able to convey the Japanese culture we wanted to express. However, when it was time to try folding origami cranes at the end, we were very happy to see the ambassadors, host mothers, and teachers having fun folding origami cranes.
What I felt through the ceremony was that Americans are very kind, gentle, and friendly. In our Japanese culture, I think using honorific language and being polite when interacting with others makes a good impression. However, in America, I felt that it is considered polite to greet people you meet for the first time in a friendly manner with a smile, and to express your own opinions clearly. Through the two-week training, I was able to experience American culture and daily life, and I feel that I was able to really feel the cultural differences between Japan and America. There is only a little time left until I return to Japan, so I would like to cherish each and every day.
As you can see, HM had a great time in the USA, along with all the other students who took part. We look forward to the final report soon.
(充実した2週間の研修も残りわずかとなり名残惜しい・・・。次回の現地レポートがいよいよ最終回です。お楽しみに!)
