The Oral Communication class offers great opportunities for our students to use their English actively in class.
（本学では、少人数制のクラスで学生がより多く発言をする機会を設けています。今回のウェブニュースでは、オーラル・コミュニケーションの授業で学生がどのように英語での発信力を高めているのか、授業の様子を紹介したいと思います。）

We work on discussion skills, presentation skills, and a whole range of other skills necessary to have good communication in English. In the Global Studies group, after discussions about tourism, including issues related to overtourism, students recently worked in groups to create a unique tour in Japan.
（この授業では、さまざまなトピックに関して英語によるディスカッションとプレゼンテーションを行いながら、英語のコミュニケーション能力を総合的に高めます。例えば観光をテーマに取り組み、日本のユニークなツアーを考えるプロジェクトを行いました。）

Each student worked alone at first, and then presented her ideas to her group.
（まず個人で考えを深め、そしてグループでそれぞれの考えを共有します。）

After each group member had presented their ideas, the students in the group then had to come up with a group plan. To do this they had to discuss, agree, disagree, cooperate, compromise, and finally come to a decision. Then they had to go away and, with good teamwork, create slides with details about their unique tour.
（その後、グループで考えをまとめ、ツアーの企画を立てます。この過程で、学生たちは話し合い、賛成意見も反対意見も考慮しながら協力して妥協点を見出し、最終的な結論をめざします。さらに、連携しながらツアーを紹介するスライドも作成します。）

After they had done this, there was time for final preparations for the group presentations - an important session where each group member had to be sure of their role. The presentations were really interesting. KY, YL and LP presented their "Sweet Tooth Tour" designed for families with children.
（発表の成功にはグループ内での役割を意識することが大切です。そうした準備を経てプレゼンテーションに臨みます。どのようなツアーが出来上がったのでしょうか。学生たちが考えたツアーを紹介しましょう。例えば、「甘いもの好きツアー」は小さな子どものいる家族向けのものです。）

HM, TN and KS had a "Yurukyara Tour" which allowed tourists to go to lesser-visited places in Japan. MH, HS and YY presented about a healthy bicycle ecotour in the Ikuchijima area.
（他にも、「ゆるキャラツアー」では知る人ぞ知る場所を巡ります。また、健康と環境を考えた「生口島サイクリングツアー」なんて企画も。）

As always, the slides that students made were extremely good, and great effort had been made to present with clear structure, really interesting and thoughtful content, and of course, in good English. We're all looking forward to the next group task presentations. Well done students!
