The Department of International English is very excited to be offering a new course this coming August and September called Perspectives on Peace. This will be an online, on-demand course centred on the concept of peace. By bringing together a diverse group of speakers, this course seeks to offer participants an opportunity to think about the importance of peace and the challenge of creating and maintaining it.
（国際英語学科では、今年8～9月にこれまでにない新しいコース「Perspectives on Peace」を開講します。この講座は、平和という概念を主題にし、多様な講師陣を招き、平和の重要性、平和を創造し維持することの難しさについて考える機会を提供します。）

Our students will be joined by students with various academic backgrounds from around Southeast Asia, including the Philippines and Indonesia, and they will have a chance to think about and understand the importance of peace from the standpoints of history, contemporary issues, governmental and non-governmental organisations, the arts, and individuals' stories.

We have an exciting range of contributors, who together share hundreds of years of experience of working for, studying, and being inspired by peace. We have artists, writers, educators, people in the NPO/NGO sector, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations, coming together to provide a genuinely unique course.

広島への原爆投下と自分の芸術の関連性を考える授業に向けて、被爆者と地元企業の経営者にインタビューする道原聡氏。

I asked one of our own 4th year students here at HJU, PS, who has been very active on and off-campus with peace-related events and internships, why she had signed up. She told us, "In my time at HJU, I've volunteered with a local peace-related organization, and have joined online discussions about peace and other global issues, so when I saw this course I was very interested in it. I'm especially interested in seeing how students from other countries think about these issues, since I've had positive experiences of online events before". I also spoke with KT, who will be joining us from a partner university in Indonesia, and she said, "I know a little about the history of Hiroshima, and lately, because of the G7, we have become more aware of the issue of peace. I hope to learn new things about this topic from many different perspectives, and meeting some students from Japan".
（本学の4年生で、学内外で平和に関するイベントやインターンシップに積極的に参加しているPSさんに、このコースの受講のきっかけを聞いてみました。「女学院大学では、地元の平和関連団体でボランティア活動をしたり、平和やその他のグローバルな問題についてのオンラインディスカッションに参加したりしてきたので、このコースを知ったとき、とても興味を持ちました。特に、以前オンラインイベントで素晴らしい経験ができたので、他の国の学生がこれらの問題についてどのように考えているのかを知りたいと思っています」。また、インドネシアの提携大学から参加するKTさんにも話を聞いたところ、「広島の歴史は少し知っていますし、最近はG7サミットの影響で、平和という問題が意識されるようになりました。このテーマについて、さまざまな視点から新しいことを学び、日本の学生にも会いたい」と話していました。

PS, a current 4th year in the Department of International English, has registered to take the course this August. Here, she can be seen volunteering at the 'Friends Day' event organised by the NPO she interned with.
