In our KEG department, students are awarded STARS certificates based on scores in public English tests such as TOEIC or EIKEN. TT has been very active, both on and off campus, and we were delighted to be able to present her with a 5 STAR certificate this spring. It is important for each individual student to find ways of study that fit their own personality and TT has certainly done just that. We thought it would be interesting for everyone to hear about the ways she has had fun with English during her time at HJU.
（今回のウェブニュースは、国際英語学科のSTARSプログラムで英語の目標を達成した学生の紹介です。TTさんは、学内外でもさまざまな機会にチャレンジを続けながら自己成長をめざし、今回STARSで最も高い目標の5スターを達成しました。自分なりの勉強方法を見つけて実践してきた英語の勉強法について聞いてみました。）

TOEICに向けてよく行っていたのは、通学時間や寝る前の数分で頻出単語に目を通すこと、またその他の時間では大好きな海外ドラマや洋画を見て過ごすことです。特にオフィスのシーンが多いドラマを英語字幕で視聴することで、楽しみながら語彙力とリスニング力のトレーニングができ点数の大幅アップにも繋がったので、これが自分に合った勉強法だったのかなと思います。

机に向かう勉強はあまり好きでは無いので、ボランティア活動で英語を使う機会を作ったり、外国人の友人とのSNS上でのやりとりを通して楽しく英語に触れるようにしています。「やらなきゃ」「努力している」と思わず、自分自身が楽しめる方法を継続していくことを大切にしています。

TT is going to put her English skills to good use at the Hiroshima G7 Summit being held in May. She will work as an omotenashi volunteer and she has already been interviewed by NHK, Chugoku Shimbun and TSS. We're sure that visitors from overseas will feel especially welcome when they meet TT.
