夏休みに行われるGSEの海外研修Global Village Field Experience（略してGVFE）では、今年はベトナムを訪れました。
前期の授業でベトナムでの活動に必要なことを学びました。ボトムアップやトップダウンでの地域発展やGDPなど国際的なことについてや、海外で活動する際現地でのマナーを守ることの重要性について、また、ベトナムでは観光業が地域発展と向上させているけれど、環境問題に繋がっていることについても学びました。このような授業を通して、出発前にこれらの議題についてプレゼンテーションを作りました。
Before we departed for Vietnam, we had a lot of preparation activities we needed to do.
For example, we learned about community development, especially one method known as "bottom up", and we learnt about some fundamental concepts in global studies. We learned about the importance of following the customs of a country in which we are guests. Also, we studied ways to improve the community through tourism and how this issue is connected to environmental problems in Vietnam. We made presentations about these issues before we left.
ベトナムの都市ダナンでは観光業についてを学習し、観光地の発展による環境問題やマインドマップやアセットマップの作り方も実践により学ぶことができました。市場などへ行くこともできて、ベトナムの都市部での生活を身近に知ることができました。
In Danang,we learned about the travel industry and environmental problems at tourist hotspots, and some ways to deal with these problems, too. So, we made a mind map and asset map to help us think about these problems. However, we didn't just work and study, but also went to the night market and other sightseeing spots in Danang. It was very fun to travel with team members and I experienced a lot about the urban lifestyle in Vietnam.
チャムアイランドでは、ビニール袋の持ち込みの禁止など環境に良いエコツーリズムについて学習しました。サンゴ礁やビーチなどの自然に触れることもでき、ホームステイによる宿泊業について体験することができました。また、慢性的な水不足など、島だからこそ抱える問題について考えることができました。
In Cham island, we learned about eco-tourism. In Cham island, bringing plastic bags is forbidden, to help preserve the environment. Cham island has a lot of beautiful nature, and we saw beaches and a coral reef. Furthermore, we stayed at a homestay that was so nice, it felt like a hotel, but better. However, we didn't just enjoy the island, but spoke with the local people about their problems. For example, they have a need for better access to medical care.
農村部での生活を体験した時は、日本での生活に慣れている私たちにとっては沢山のカルチャーショックを体験しました。しかし、村の人に支えてもらったおかげで現地での生活を送ることができました。また、美しい自然の景色や古代の文化など、古くから受け継がれているものから観光業を発展させることを考えることができました。
In GoCo village, we experienced the lifestyle of the village. In this village, we felt shocked because this village is very different from the context we are used to, so I experienced a culture shock. However, because of the very kind residents, I could spend good days in this village. This village has a very beautiful natural environment and culture which is connected to their ancient history. Our team focused on this legacy in our research and community engagement and we made a final presentation about eco-tourism which suggested a cycle path around the village.
コミュニティ デベロップメントの具体的な実践方法についても学びました。現地の人が持っているものや本当に必要としているものを最大限活用して、現地のレベルに合わせて発展の手伝いをするということが共同体開発にはもっとも必要なことだと分かりました。また、アメリカからの学生やベトナムの学生とコミュニケーションをとることにより、お互いの文化の違いなどについて知ることができました。
Finally, we learned about how to practice community development concretely. The most important thing is to cooperate with residents by thinking about what is the most necessary thing to the residents and what they already have. Through these conversations, we should think of ways to help them in terms of their own values.
We didn't only learn about community development, but also had a good chance to use English to communicate with the students from America and Vietnam, and learned about the cultural differences between each community.
