8月1日～3日まで、「オープンセミナー」（集中授業）を実施しました。オープンセミナーを通して本学の授業方針や授業内容を体験し、それらを十分に知ったうえで入試として出願することもできます。

今回は「英米ふしぎ発見！」というテーマのもと、1日目には観光、食生活、レジャー、映画など、英米の「ふしぎ」をグローバルな視点から学びました。2日目にはプレゼンテーションの準備を行い、3日目にはグループで発表を行いました。もう少し詳しくそれぞれの授業をご紹介しましょう。

Each of the four sessions covers a different topic related to English-speaking cultures. Hatano-sensei gave a very engaging opening session which discusses the importance of English in the world today. Then he taught a session that offered a 'virtual tour of London', giving the students an idea of some of the key cultural sites and buildings in the United Kingdom capital. Herbert-sensei taught a class on British Food Culture, which I am sure made everyone hungry. Then, on Day 2, Sekitani-sensei gave students a window through which to view American culture by exploring Disney movies. Then Dormer-sensei taught a class that explores American leisure time, and especially important issues of images of young women on Television.

4つの授業はそれぞれ英語圏の文化に関連した内容を扱いました。1日目の波多野先生の授業では、現代における世界での英語の重要性について学び、ロンドンツアーの疑似体験をしましたね。Herbert先生の授業では、イギリスの食文化について学びました。授業を受けてきっとお腹が空いたのではないでしょうか。2日目の関谷先生の授業ではディズニー映画を通して、アメリカ文化への窓が開かれました。続いてDormer先生の授業ではアメリカでの余暇について、特にテレビにおける若い女性のイメージというテーマにクローズアップしましたね。

All of the students worked hard, and in their teams they selected topics related to the four lessons on which to create a presentation. The range of topics shows how varied and deep the students' interests were, with presentations on direct/indirect speech, comparison of British and American culture, America's vegetable consciousness, an analysis of Japanese and British culture, British food culture, and the changes in British and American children's television in recent decades. Each and every student worked hard as a team to do their part, and as you can see from the photos, the final presentations were very interesting. Well done to all participants!

いよいよ3日目、グループでの発表です。グループで話し合って決めたテーマについて、限られた時間で集めた情報をいかに分かりやすく面白く伝えるかが問われます。発表から皆さんの興味が実に多岐にわたり深いものであることがうかがえました。例えば、英米文化の比較分析、アメリカ人の野菜への意識、近年の英米における子ども向けテレビ番組の推移など、皆さん本当に熱心に取り組みました。

長時間だと思っていたオープンセミナー、終わってみればあっという間でしたね。ぜひ大学で学んだことを生かして、これからの自分の勉強に生かしていってほしいですね。3日間、お疲れ様でした。
